The building was tented for termites week 48. The flat roof on the standard building(where the A/C's are) was in bad shape and had to be replaced, so that was taken care of during week 48 also.
It's been beautiful weather here, you should consider coming down for Christmas. We have lots of white stuff here too!

Week 48, 2016 Surfrider will be totally closed. Our resort will be tented for termites. Truly Nolen is the company doing the fumigation.

The weather has been great lately, the gulf is a beautiful shade of blue. We have purchased 1 more stand up paddle board, and a two person kayak. Still looking for the right one person kayak. So when you come here for vacation, there is plenty to do!

We have had some crazy weather here lately. Tornado warnings twice within the same week. Surfrider is ok. Tornado EF2 hit Cape Coral last Saturday, and Ft. Myers yesterday EF1. People staying here yesterday came and stayed in the office until warning was over. Another strong strong storm is expected tonight.
We had over 4 inches of rain yesterday, more on the way tonight.
But it was a beautiful sunny day today, high was 80.

Our 2016 maintenance fees went up to $539.00 per year. Property taxes are about $60.00 So you should expect to get a bill for $599.00 (unless taxes went up or down) per unit week, in 4-6 weeks. Fees are due January 1, 2016
We are planning on replacing the living room furniture, but it won't happen until February or March. Wish we could get it done during maintenance weeks, but not enough time. It will be done asap.

Tropical storm Erika is headed in our direction. But it is just a small storm. We are open. There could be lots of rain, and some gusty winds for Sunday and Monday.
It could fall apart and be nothing. Check the weather channel or our local news for more updates.

Cyndi, our long time front desk person had an opportunity to move into a higher paying position. She is training to become a manager at a resort at Ft Myers Beach. We will all miss her smiling face. We hired Lynn Anklam, she used to work here part time several years ago, and she has been coming here once a week since then, selling Tastefully Simple products.
I know it will be hard without Cyndi, but we will somehow muddle through. :)

On the stand up paddle boards, we are changing the use limit to 2 hours. Most people are done with them after that long anyway.

We now have two stand up paddle boards here. We need a $50.00 deposit per board. Approximately 3-4 hour use limit, so everyone has a chance to use them. We hope to get a couple of kayaks in the near future too. So now we have paddleboards, bicycles, bean bag toss game, horseshoes, tennis, shuffleboard, and small playground, pool and hot tub. That should keep everyone busy. Jackie

The interior flooring has been installed. The rooms look great. The exterior walkways are all done and should last for years! The pool deck is 3/4 done, should be complete tomorrow afternoon. It is the same material as before, looks nice again. Weather today will be in the low to mid 70's, perfect for December. Check out the pictures of rooms and grounds that I will post in the next hour. First floor deluxe walkway almost done. It rained this morning, so the new material was wet and I tried my best to slip on it, couldn't do it!
Please be considerate of the guys who are working on walkways, once they start to put down the peel and stick material, they cannot stop to let you walk by. Please wait a few minutes until they get it down or walk a different way. Pirate week is wrapping up. They had their party Wednesday, weather was perfect for them. Jackie

Parking has always been an issue here. Never quite enough for family and friends. Last week we received 520 boards, 16' long and several pallets of screws/peel and stick roofing material, that is at the end of the parking lot, near unit 101. We do not have any additional parking. One parking spot per unit. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Caloosa Wholesale has parking spots they rent out daily or weekly. They are behind the Bait Box. Their number is 239-472-3939. They said you need to call and make a reservation, as they may be totally full Saturday due to the holiday weekend. Jackie

Work will begin sometime next week on the walkways. There will be some noise while they are working, but it shouldn't be too bad. The setback area will be trimmed next week also. The weather here has been great. We have the doors open in the office today, such a nice breeze, low humidity. Jackie

Maintenance weeks are over, all units had a deep cleaning, carpets cleaned, refrigerators painted, walls and baseboards touched up with paint, etc, etc.... We woke this morning to a brisk 70 degrees and a North breeze! Low humidity, I had to bring a sweater just in case.
The Gulf waters look much better, still not the color we are used to, but getting better everyday. Our annual meeting is Nov. 8th at 1:00pm here in the lobby. The outcome of the election for board members, and the change in condo docs for the smoking or non smoking issue will be announced. If anyone has any questions regarding sales, please give me a call or email me. If you are sending in a sales agreement, give me a call or email me so I can start telling people right away. I will post some units for sale on facebook from time to time, so look there also.

A little rainy here the past few days, and will be for a couple more.
The plants and grass are looking great with the light rain we have had. No lightning, or high winds, so the pool is great, the hot tub inviting. Since we have had to be vigilant in keeping our doors locked while staying here, we have also had to up the price if you lose a room key. We have to call Island locksmith to come and re-key the lock and pass the cost on to you. The cost for that is $117.00. We are sorry to have to do that, but there is no sense in locking our doors if there are room keys floating around the beach for anyone to find and use. We have several association owned weeks here for sale. Check out the sales page for units.

While staying here at Surfrider, when you leave your unit, please lock your doors. It used to be so safe here, but the world is changing. Since November there has been someone going around the East end of the island and up towards Casa y bel, and going into unlocked units and taking cash & jewelry. They are also getting into unlocked cars and taking anything of value. I do not like to post things like this but everyone needs to be aware.

All of the deluxe unit door knobs have been changed out to just passage knobs and you will now use the deadbolt only to lock your door. No more locking yourselves out, even though I did enjoy the occasional trip out to the resort in the evening to let you in! We now have additional shade at the grills near 102, just ask us for the umbrellas and we will get them in place. Still working on how to get more shade while in the pool for the hot summer/fall days.
We have 10 new pool lounges that are about 4 inches higher than the old ones. (easier to get up) And 10 new pool chairs.
We have 16 association owned weeks for sale. From standard unit season weeks, to July to September weeks. Along with some real nice season weeks that haven't been up for sale in years. Give me a call for a deal!

I went out to the resort around 3:00pm today. Everything is fine out there. No one was at the pool. Breezy, and some rain, nothing bad. Will be interesting to see how high the water comes tomorrow morning. They are saying maybe 2 - 4 foot surge. I don't think that will be a problem for us.

The Lee County Emergency Operation Center announces that if the projected 5 to 7 foot storm surge is still in the forecast tomorrow morning, it will call for mandatory evacuations for parts of the county. Director John Wilson says EOC will make the call following Sunday’s 5:00 a.m. forecast by the National Hurricane Center. The decision regarding possible mandatory evacuations will be announced by 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning. If mandatory evacuations are enacted, they will affect the following areas of Lee County:
Fort Myers Beach
Lee County Barrier Islands of Cayo Costa, Upper Captiva & Useppa
Low lying areas along the Caloosahatchee River in Fort Myers, North Fort Myers and Cape Coral
Low lying areas in Bokeelia, Pineland, St. James City and Matlacha on Pine Island
Director Wilson says if the mandatory evacuations are enacted, people will have a short period of time to act. He recommends those living in the above areas immediately begin preparing for that possibility.
I will let everyone at the resort know if they have to leave tomorrow.

The front of the building facing the Gulf was so faded, it was hard to recognize from the beach, so it was repainted in late May, and it looks great. A lot of people seem to love our new brightly colored, light weight, plastic adirondack chairs for the beach. We still have some of the old style chairs and lounges, but they rust and have to be replaced often.Our maintenance team has changed since last year. Denny who started in October and really liked working here left in April for economic reasons. Max who started 9 years ago, who also liked working here left in late May. So we hired Todd Norwood in April and Frank Gatica in June. The new maintenance guys are very friendly and will help with anything needed. We had a new bright white fence installed around the equipment area for the pool. Hopefully that has helped with the noise of the pumps running nonstop.We had all the trees on the property trimmed in July right on schedule. We don't need any coconuts flying around during a hurricane!Our upcoming maintenance project for this year will be some form of bathroom update. I'm still not sure of the exact details as of now.Tropical storm Debby that came our way in late June gave us some much needed rain, and cleaned out some dead branches from the trees.Schools are back in session as of today in Lee County. We have replaced one washer & dryer in the guest laundry in July. The guys fixed a leak that was under the pool deck near the hot tub/shower area, they had to do a little digging, but did not have to cut the deck. They did a great job. May 18, 2012As I was coming to work this morning, while crossing the causeway I looked out over the water, wow! I see it everyday, but it never gets old.Looking off to my right, towards Pine Island/St. James City, the water was flat, about 10 -15 small fishing boats scattered across the bay. I saw the top half of a fin from a dolphin, then a small pod of dolphins a few yards away, then another coming almost all the way out of the water, feeding time I guess. The front of the building still is not complete. They will be working on it next week also. Sorry for any inconvenience.Jackie

The front of the building facing the beach, units 201 & 101 will have some work being done to it next week. It will be repainted and outriggers replaced, and a small area of wood replaced. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. There is never a good time to do this type of work, but it has to be done. When it is all finished, Surfrider will look beautiful from the beach once again!

The Gulf is just about flat, so inviting. This is the last day of maintenance. We had ten a/c units installed. Rooms deep cleaned, carpet cleaned. The grounds look great. If I didn't work here, I would vacation here!

Ten more units will get new air conditioners during that time. We have planted more flowers and bushes around the property, new baskets are hanging around the pool.

Spa had a leak and we just finished finding it and repairing it. We had a great company come out to find and fix it. Garvis pool repair.
Hot tub work is all done, minus the small amount of deck work. Hot tub is great! The grounds look so nice. The humidity was a bit lower today. We have purchased 10 plastic lounges, and 10 plastic adirondack style chairs for the beach. I think everyone is tired of rusty beach chairs. Working on a better umbrella that is affordable.

The tropics are heating up. Nothing to worry about yet. A couple of waves in the Atlantic that they are watching. Will let you know if anything heads our way.
The spa is finished! Collector tank installed. Still waiting on hooking up the new Cat System (Constantly monitoring pH and sanitizer activity, the CAT system implements chemical dosing in proportion to demand.) Should be Monday.
We finally got all the cable adapter boxes installed this week.
We will be trimming all the palms & other trees on the property within the next 3 weeks, it will happen on a Wednesday, just not sure what week yet.

Well the hot tub is being worked on as I write this. We had hoped it would be done earlier, but I guess there was a problem with permitting. But the collector tank is in, and the new tile is going on right now. Hopefully middle of next week it should be up and running.
Budget meeting is coming up August 26th.
Hurricane season is here, but so far so good. Tropical storm Don is headed for Texas, did not bother us.
I just heard today that one of our owners, a past board member, Lou DePaull passed away June 18th.

Well the parking lots are all done. Looks great. We have replaced the chairs in the standard units. They are bigger and look like they will hold up very well.
Coming up soon, between weeks 21 thru 26 the hot tub will be shut down. Putting in a collector tank to go from a direct suction to a gravity fed system. (State law) We're sorry for any inconvenience this will cause. But the pool will be open and it is great!

This Saturday we will be adding more gravel to the parking lot, and also replacing the yellow concrete parking blocks. The deluxe side parking lot will be closed off until we get finished, hopefully no later than noon. Then we will move on to the standard side. So anyone coming in on Saturday, take your time, do a little sightseeing before you get here! We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Well, we have had a few rain showers the last 10 days or so. We really needed the rain. A cool front is coming today, tomorrows high should only be 83 degrees, but with lower humidity. This has been a good year for weather so far.

Coming across the causeway this morning I seen two kayaks,one yellow, one green, several people in small fishing boats looking for that perfect spot to drop anchor, then a larger boat probably heading out to Cabbage Key or Cayo Costa for the day(not sure if they were really going there, but that is where I would go) The water was perfect for boating. We have several units available for rent, give us a call for a great deal!

We lost one of our owners yesterday, Pete Schmieler. He was the one that started the Surfrider website years ago. He also obtained the surfriderbeachclub.com domain knowing how important it would be for Surfrider. He briefly served on the board about 10 years ago. He owned weeks during 2-6, 20, 21, and 45-49. He would often be seen out at the pool with his big cup of ice and a cigar. Cooler days he would come into the office for a cup of coffee and the latest buzz. He always had a smile and made you feel like a true friend.

I don't think this went out in the newsletter, so everyone who owns 52 and/or 1, please read.
In the year 2011 we will have a 53rd week. This week is owned by the association and is being offered to the owners at a reduced rate. Or you can exchange your week 52 for 53, or week 1 for 53 with us at the resort. The rental rate, should you wish to rent week 53 will be $700.00 plus 11% tax.
Owners of week 52 AND 1 will have first choice. You have until February 1, 2011 to make your choice. After that time, week 53 will be offered for rent to owners of weeks 52 OR 1, you have until April 1, 2011 to make your choice. After that time week 53 will be offered for rent to all Surfrider Beach Club owners. You have until May 31st, 2011. After that time, week 53 will be offered to the general public at $???.?? plus 11% tax.
Selection of the units will be on a first come basis.
Example: The owners of unit XYZ, week 52, and the owners of XYZ week 1 both want to rent unit XYZ week 53. The owner that calls with their request FIRST will secure the rental. You will have 10 days to send a $250.00 deposit made out to RAL Rental Escrow. If we do not receive it, we will put the unit back in the rental pool. There will be other units available for rent and you may rent more than 1 unit when the remaining units are offered to the general public.
Also, it is very important for all owners to make sure of your unit week arrival dates in 2012, as week 53 has a tendency to change the normal calendar dates in which you arrive.

Storms have not bothered us. Next one in line is tropical depression Gaston, still too far away to know where it will go. Will let you know of any updates to the weather. Beaches are still oil free, just like normal.

Another beautiful day here. Sunny & hot. Beaches are perfect. A lot of people have been finding sand dollars.
Just a reminder, no live shells can be taken here on Sanibel. There is a $50.00 per shell fine if caught with a live shell.
Sea turtle nesting season is from May thru October. Please do not leave ANYTHING on the beach between 9:00pm and 7:00am. Surfrider could be fined if in front of our resort. Or the person who left a chair or towel on the beach could be fined if caught.
Board meeting on the 27th at 1:00pm at RAL office in Ft. Myers.

Friday the 13th means nothing here on Sanibel, everything is beautiful.
Beach is still great. No oil here. Fishing is good. NOAA said LESS than 1% chance we will get any oil here on our beaches. So come on down!

Beach is great. Fishing is even better! Some owners this week have caught a couple of sharks.
Tropical Storm Alex will not affect us. Beaches are great.
